We give hurricanes human names, as we imbue animals with human traits. But Hurricane Ida, like a Krakatoa eruption that produced a cloudy nuclear winter, didn’t care about us. We could make sacrifices to her, or dance as fast as we can; Ida still bore down and wreaked her wreckage.
